HARASSMENT (BULLYING)

Harassment of students by other students will not be tolerated.  This includes, but it is not limited to, harassment on the basis of race, sexual orientation, creed, national origin, religion, marital status, or disability.  Harassment may include, but is not limited to verbal, physical, or written harassment or abuse; repeated remarks of a demeaning nature; implied or explicit threats; demeaning jokes, internet bullying, stories, or activities directed at a student.  Students whose behavior is found to be in violation of this policy will be subject to disciplinary measures up to and including expulsion from school.  Threats or actions done in a “joking manner” will

also not be tolerated.  “I was only joking” is not a reasonable explanation or defense.  This type of comment will be treated as serious in our school.

In the interest of insuring that North Kossuth School District which includes North Kossuth Elementary and North Sentral Kossuth High School is a safe place for everyone, threats will be taken seriously.  The types of behaviors that will be considered threatening include:

♦  Stating that you have a weapon or bomb in your possession at school.
♦  Stating that you plan to bring a weapon or bomb to school.                                                    ♦  Stating that you plan to cause physical harm to a student or staff member.
♦  Making a false statement that there is a bomb or other destructive device at school
♦  Any written or verbal indication that you intend to damage person or property.

In addition to parental notification, possible outcomes/consequences that could be imposed for issuing a threat include:
1.  Further investigation by school personnel.
2.  Detention
3.  Suspension
4.  Expulsion                                                                                                                       5.  Further investigation by law enforcement agencies
6.  Prosecution for Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Mischief, Menacing.
