Sentral Freshman Use Palm Pilots
November 27, 2007
The Freshman Class at Sentral High School has the opportunity to explore additional electronic technology. Each student is assigned a Palm T/X Handheld for personal use throughout the school day.
A new one semester course titled "applications in Technology" has become a requirement of all freshmen. Students learn various applications and how to complete daily assignments and projects using the handhelds. Science and History classes have been the main focus of the project. Math instructors have utilized the graphing calculator options in their classes.
Examples of student projects have been to create personal business cards, develop a schedule planner and record assignments. Students's uses also include journal writing activities and Internet access. Instructors can beam tests and assignments to a student. The student can complete and return the activity to the instructor. Note taking is another student centered activity that can be accomplished using the technology.
A total of 34 Palm Pilots were purchased along with 10 keyboards. The school used funds from Tech Prep and Perkins Grants for the purchase.
