Sentral Elementary School Recognized for Reading First Achievements
November 20, 2007

This year the Iowa Department of Education established a set of criteria for determining Reading First Schools that have been highly successful in making gains in student achievement. The Sentral Elementary School has again this year been identified one of fifteen buildings as a Highly Successful Reading First School.
The 15 Cohort 1 Reading First schools that have been identified as being highly successful were determined by their efforts to increase the percentage of students proficient on various reading assessment. Analyses were conducted to determine the percentage of students proficient on 44 indicators of success by school. Specifically, a school was identified as a "highly successful" school if it achieved 75% (33) of the performance benchmarks met with 75% of students proficient on diagnostic measures and 70% of student proficient on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and/or was identified as having made the greatest gains during the 2006-2007 school year.
This accomplishment is a reflection of the Sentral Schools strong leadership, implementation of quality professional development and a commitment to improving the reading achievement of all students.
Congratulations!
